Motion graphics video about the how AI is affecting the creative industry
Project Description
Being a graduating graphic design student, one of the most prominent questions about my career was "How is AI affecting you?" With AI advancing at an incredible pace, it was of my best interest to research more about it and how what its role is within the creative industry.
Panic within the Creative Industry is a summation of my research and an artifact to intended to calm minds frazzled by the AI craze.

Strategy
Using a combination of motion graphics, collected clips, and audio from various sources I constructed a narrative regarding the effects of AI on designers. Thorough research on the current state of AI was done to create a message, and luckily for me there were plenty of overlapping ideas.
Solution
A Vox inspired video summarizing the research that was done. Since the art direction of Vox videos are almost analog and vintage, it felt appropriate to contrast the advanced technology that AI is. Using methods like a lower frame rate, turbulent displace on assets used, and paper-like textures overlayed on the compositions, the result is a video that feels genuine and authentic — feelings that oppose that of what AI expresses.
The narrative is a combinations of three Ted Talk speakers spliced together to arrive at the same conclusion: AI is coming, but it won’t replace designers, rather it will coincide with designers as another tool. It’s better to get accustomed to the tool than to shy away from it. And although AI is capable of incredible things, its need for the creativity of humans that will be it’s limiting factor.
Project Insights
I chose to do this topic because it was such a strange but interesting aspect of my last semester of school, as well as its prevalence regarding to my future career. I figured that I would be doing myself a favour doing my own research about the state of AI, because before this project, I was skeptical of what it could do and unaware of how truly brilliant it is. This project also posed as an opportunity for me to wade into the world of motion graphics, which I found I thoroughly enjoyed. Although motion is a very strenuous and tedious practice, I’ve found that the results are incredibly rewarding.
